What We Believe About Scripture

Christianity is a relationship to a Person, the Son of God, Jesus Christ. It is only Jesus Christ who is the supreme revelation of God, and it is primarily in the Holy Scriptures that we know about the life and ministry of Jesus Christ, his birth in Bethlehem, his Crucifixion, and his Ressurection.

The Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments contain all things necessary to salvation, and they are the rule and ultimate standard of the faith. Therefore, nothing can be commanded of the Christian to be believed except is able to be proven by Holy Scripture. In matters of doctrine, then, the Christian will turn to the Scriptures, and the clear word of the Bible shall be the standard for belief. In cases where the Bible is not clear, the Christian will turn to the traditions of the Church in understanding the matter, deciding in favor of what has been believed everywhere, at all times, by every believing Christian.

As Anglicans we do not submit to t he opinions of culture or the decisions of political correctness in deciding belief, but rather believe that culture must submit to the clear word of faith. If there are cases where neither Scripture nor tradition speaks clearly, the Anglican will apply his or her God-given ability to reason; but in no case is a decision about faith to be made by reasoning that is contrary to Scripture or the clear application of it in the tradition of the Curch universal.
